FOOD SYSTEMS SOLUTIONS

Practical, hands-on support for building pathways from farms to markets.

I work with farms, food hubs, and regional food organizations to design and implement solutions that work in the real world. My approach is rooted in on-the-ground experience with producers, processors, and food hubs, a deep understanding of food safety and compliance, and a commitment to building systems that are usable, sustainable, and responsive to real needs.

  • I help organizations design, test, and improve programs that support farmers and move food to market.

    This includes:

Shaping new program ideas and pathways to market

Reviewing how a program currently operates

Comparing different sales and distribution approaches

Estimating staffing needs and operational capacity

Clarifying roles across the supply chain

    Analyzing workflows and identifying bottlenecks

    Developing clear, practical recommendations

  • I help translate good ideas into clear, workable day-to-day systems.

    This includes:

Supporting the implementation of vendor management and ordering systems

Developing SOPs for hub-to-hub and multi-producer sales

Creating harvest and packing specifications for growers

Supporting coordination between farmers, staff, and buyers

    Building templates for recurring tasks

Making systems easier to use, update, and maintain

  • I create practical tools that make complex work easier—starting with simple templates and moving toward digital solutions.

    This includes:

    Budgeting and cost tracking tools

    Recordkeeping templates

    Custom spreadsheets and calculators

Intake forms, onboarding materials, and simple process guides

Templates and specs for multi-producer and hub-to-hub sales

Food safety manuals, hub food safety requirements, and grower-facing guides

Digital tools in development (more coming soon)

  • I provide practical, accessible training and one-on-one support to help farmers, organizational staff, and partners understand requirements, explore new models, and apply them in real life.

    This includes:

Farmer-facing trainings on food safety and market requirements

Trainings for staff at food hubs, nonprofits, and food system organizations

Translating complex standards into plain language

Developing custom training materials and guides

    One-on-one technical assistance

Follow-up support to help put new systems into practice

  • I help organizations build market pathways that integrate food safety from the start, so compliance supports—rather than blocks—sales and distribution.

    This includes:

Aligning food safety practices with new sales channels and market requirements

Identifying which certifications or standards apply to different markets

Designing compliance workflows that fit real operations

    Creating grower-facing guidance and templates

Helping organizations understand how food safety affects pricing, packing, and distribution

Translating requirements into clear, usable systems

Examples of My Work

FRESHFARM Food Hub (Washington, DC)
Supported a multi-channel food hub model through landscape analysis, operational recommendations, and financial modeling, with a focus on improving workflows, clarifying program structure, and strengthening long-term sustainability.

4P Foods (Warrenton, VA)
Developed packing specifications, vendor requirements, and onboarding documents, and supported the implementation and rollout of a new vendor system. Worked with RFSP grant partner food hubs to develop consistent handling processes and food safety agreements across hubs for intra-hub sales.

Chesapeake Ag Innovation Center (Eastern Shore, MD)
Supported outreach efforts, connecting farmers in Maryland and Delaware with technical assistance programs including the Farm Mentorship Program, Value Chain Coordination, and educational courses and webinars. Built relationships with producers and regional partners to increase awareness, participation, and access to resources.

International Rescue Committee – New Roots Program (Charlottesville, VA)
Currently supporting the design and evaluation of market models, the selection and rollout of a pooled sales tool, and the development of farmer-facing trainings connecting food safety, market access, and real-world operations.
